Birds: Cliff Swallows

Sunday, 25 July 2010

Mike spotted these cliff swallows on the walls of a neighbor's front porch.

He shot this picture with one head showing.

Later I took this picture of two heads. I wonder how many are there in the nest.

There was another nest.

Fruits: Peaches

Sunday, 25 July 2010

Don't you like fruit trees? Let me think. I don't think I have come across any fruit (for human consumption) trees that I don't like yet.

This is the 1st time I have seen a peach tree.

I thought they have to be eaten ripe until I saw someone cutting the unripe ones and eating them with salt. Reminded me of buah kedondong (great hog plum). I tried without salt. It is nice and crunchy. I like it. These peaches are from the tree above. They are not as big as the ones sold in the supermarket but that is okay.

What I love about Spring is the Flowers

Monday, 7 June 2010

What I like about Spring time is the flowers. I love flowers. They are beautiful!

There was the trees of purple flowers, that I kept telling Mike that I wanted to take picture of but didn't. Hours passed, then days, weeks, months and they are gone! Thank goodness, Spring will come again! The temperature is now in the 90's F and the flowers are going!

These pictures were taken on the 3 May at a friend's place.

These were taken outside our home on the 31 May.

These pictures were taken on the 2 June at a neighbor's place.

And last, but not least, the flowers outside the post office on the 2 June. The flower petals were dropping.

Snow in Spring

Saturday, 20 March 2010

It snowed last night! And it was officially spring last Sunday 14 March. Someone told me that it snowed in May one year. So we will see if it would happen this year. By 5 pm, the snow the sun has melted most of the snow away.

It snowed again last night. This picture was taken at 9:47 am.

Snow Again!

Thursday, 4 February 2010

It was only a week ago when we had snow storm. And yesterday, it snowed again! This time the door could be opened because the snow only fall on surfaces, unlike last week they are everywhere including the shaded areas. Last time the car didn't have much snow on it. The wind blew them off. This time the car and the trees was covered!

Snow everywhere!

I am amazed by the icicles. They are like stalactites in a cave, except that the icicles are frozen water!

Snow turning to Ice!

Saturday, 30 January 2010

Highest temperature would be 36 deg F at 3 pm today. It was good to see the sun even though it was glaring. It would take a few days before all is melted. I hope they melt away quickly and the water get sucked up quickly by the dry ground!

The Aftermath of the Snow Storm

Friday, 29 January 2009

The warning and then the real thing. The snow storm started midnight on Wednesday 27 January until 6 am Central Standard Time today.

There was only the netting in the back door and the snow had gotten in!

As for the front door, there were snow between the netting and the glass panel!

I could only open the door a tiny bit, enough for me to measure the amount of snow that has accumulated - 10 inches!

Called Roger and jokingly told him that we are trapped in the house! There was no intention of going anywhere. The ground and the road were covered with inches of snow. Roger answered that he and his son had just helped a car on the road, and would come to shovel away the snow to our front door!

I like the picture of father and son. They looked cute. Dad wore the orange hat and son wore the matching orange gloves!

New Year's Eve

Thursday, 31 December 2009

Woke up to see the outside covered with snow the 2nd time this season. 3 weeks ago, on the 8 December 2009, the place was covered with snow as well but it only lasted until noon when the sun came out.

Would you be able to make out the road if you didn't know this area?

This was the picture at 3:35 pm while the above picture was taken at 8:09 am.

They are different and they are both beautiful in their own way.

Region 1 Marching Band Contest, Amarillo, Texas

Saturday, 17 October 2009

It was a university interscholastic league region 1 marching contest held at the Dick Bivins stadium in Amarillo, Texas.

Started off with the 1st bank from Stratford High School at 10:00 am.

Followed by the Wellington High School

This was what we came to support. The band from Sunray High School where Michelle and Joshua were performing.

We left after the Sunray High School had performed. I would love to stay and watch because this is my first experience, but I have to follow the gang. I think paying $5 for admission just to enter and support our Sunray High School is a little wasteful for me. And Sunray High School was only the 3rd band playing that morning! Well, I guess the gang is used to this kind of content and I should be happy that I got that opportunity to watch 3 bands.

There were 6 classes of bands. There were 12 "A" bands, 9 "AA" bands, 3 "AAA" bands, 7 "AAAA" bands and 2 "AAAAA" bands. There are altogether 33 bands in the contest.

The 1st "A" band (Stratford HS) performed at 10:00 am and the last "AAAAA" band (Amarillo HS) was scheduled to perform at 8:30 pm.

41st Annual Funday, Sunray

Saturday, 15 August 2009

What caught my attention most on this day were:

(1) The haircut. The young lad was standing in front of me, during the parade at the main street

(2) The raccoon. Roger had 2 of them since they were a few days old. They were reared for educational purpose and not as pets. They were displayed at his booth at the community park.

19 December 2009: Thanks, Elda, for allowing me to post these pictures that you took, on this day.
