Dark and White Christmas 2012

Wednesday, 26 December 2012

Woke up to darkness.   Electricity was off, don't know what time in the morning.   Mike woke up at 1am and there was indication of a power failure sometime earlier.   A lot of people in different areas were affected.  We stayed inside the condominium this day and night of the 26 December.   Next day, we stayed at a hotel as the temperature in the condo continue to drop, plus there is no indication as to when electricity would be restored.   Our electricity was only restored 3 days later - 29 December 2012.

Woke up to sight of snow everywhere outside - the cars, the trash bins, the recycle bins, the bushes, the trees, the roofless verandah.

The Beauties of the Changing Seasons

Friday, 18 March 2011: Tulsa, Oklahoma. Spring was officially the 30 March but the tree was already in the spring mode. I thought this was beautiful.

Thursday, 28 April 2011: Tulsa, Oklahoma. Officially summer was not until 21 June, but the tree was!

Wednesday, 23 November 2011: Tulsa, Oklahoma. Autumn is between 23 September and 21 December. I was waiting for the the whole tree to turn orange but I am not sure I would ever get that because the leaves were falling down!

Eating Snow

Thursday, 20 January 2011

Thanks to Mary, otherwise I wouldn't have thought about eating snow.
I didn't leave any container to collect the snow during the storm last night. Mike said I could scoop the snow on top of our car. Looks the same as the shaved ice that is used for ice kacang/cendol!

I used the left-over bellies syrup Mike made for the panckes. It tasted good on the 2 bowls of snow! Next time no scooping. Hopefully the wind wouldn't blow away the bowl!

Tuesday, 1 February 2011

I remembered to leave a bowl at the verandah during last night blizzard. It would have been filled if I had left it on top of the car but I don't have snow boots to walk to get it.
This time, I ate the snow (topped with a little condensed milk). This is better than shaved ice!

This is all I got from the storm last night. Next time!

Bye Winter!

Monday, 10 January 2011 - Woke up to see snow on the ground!

Thursday, 20 January 2011 - Morning after the snow storm.

Tuesday, 1 February 2011 - It is the morning after the blizzard warning which took effect 6pm the night before. And the day saw blowing snow until 4-5 pm.

Thursday, 3 February 2011 - The cars are stuck!

Wednesday, 9 February 2011 - Morning after the last winter storm of the season (hopefully, never know what nature can do).

Clouds

Saturday, 24 July 2010

During the ride from Amarillo to Dumas, I thought the clouds were interesting.

1st the small white clouds passing over the dark clouds

Snow in Spring

Saturday, 20 March 2010

It snowed last night! And it was officially spring last Sunday 14 March. Someone told me that it snowed in May one year. So we will see if it would happen this year. By 5 pm, the snow the sun has melted most of the snow away.

It snowed again last night. This picture was taken at 9:47 am.

Snow Again!

Thursday, 4 February 2010

It was only a week ago when we had snow storm. And yesterday, it snowed again! This time the door could be opened because the snow only fall on surfaces, unlike last week they are everywhere including the shaded areas. Last time the car didn't have much snow on it. The wind blew them off. This time the car and the trees was covered!

Snow everywhere!

I am amazed by the icicles. They are like stalactites in a cave, except that the icicles are frozen water!

Snow turning to Ice!

Saturday, 30 January 2010

Highest temperature would be 36 deg F at 3 pm today. It was good to see the sun even though it was glaring. It would take a few days before all is melted. I hope they melt away quickly and the water get sucked up quickly by the dry ground!

Snow melting on the roof of a store house belonging to a resident of the street.

A tractor shovelling away the snow from the road.

Snow changed to ice on the grass.

The Aftermath of the Snow Storm

Friday, 29 January 2009

The warning and then the real thing. The snow storm started midnight on Wednesday 27 January until 6 am Central Standard Time today.

There was only the netting in the back door and the snow had gotten in!

As for the front door, there were snow between the netting and the glass panel!

I could only open the door a tiny bit, enough for me to measure the amount of snow that has accumulated - 10 inches!

Called Roger and jokingly told him that we are trapped in the house! There was no intention of going anywhere. The ground and the road were covered with inches of snow. Roger answered that he and his son had just helped a car on the road, and would come to shovel away the snow to our front door!

I like the picture of father and son. They looked cute. Dad wore the orange hat and son wore the matching orange gloves!

New Year's Eve

Thursday, 31 December 2009

Woke up to see the outside covered with snow the 2nd time this season. 3 weeks ago, on the 8 December 2009, the place was covered with snow as well but it only lasted until noon when the sun came out.

Would you be able to make out the road if you didn't know this area?

This was the picture at 3:35 pm while the above picture was taken at 8:09 am.

They are different and they are both beautiful in their own way.
