The Beauties of the Changing Seasons
Friday, 18 March 2011: Tulsa, Oklahoma. Spring was officially the 30 March but the tree was already in the spring mode. I thought this was beautiful.
Thursday, 28 April 2011: Tulsa, Oklahoma. Officially summer was not until 21 June, but the tree was!
Wednesday, 23 November 2011: Tulsa, Oklahoma. Autumn is between 23 September and 21 December. I was waiting for the the whole tree to turn orange but I am not sure I would ever get that because the leaves were falling down!

Veterans Day 2011

It was Veterans Day. We decided to take advantage of some of the freebies!
These cakes were not freebies. They were displayed at the Sam's Club (6922, South Mingo Road, Tulsa) and attracted by attention.
Sam's Club gave away Hugo collapsible cane to veterans on the 9th, 10th & 11th November. We didn't know about the 9th and 10th so we went only today. We are thankful that veterans do not have to be a member of the Sam's Club to get one. Luckily they are still available. Mike was very happy to receive it. Thank you Hugo and Sam's Club!
Car washing was not in our plan today. Mike read somewhere about free car wash for veterans, but didn't take note of the places giving the free car washing. Good thing we saw the sign board while driving to our next destination. Thank you Phillips 66 (Paradise) for the free wash.
Our first time here - Phillips 66 (Paradise) Car Wash at 9637 East 71st Street, Tulsa. We learnt that they only charged $3 for a wash. That is the cheapest price that I know of in Tulsa. I thought $5 was the cheapest, so this was a good thing to know!
We decided to have our lunch at Texas Roadhouse, 11111 East 71st Street, Tulsa. They were giving free meal to veterans from 11am-2pm. We only had to pay for my meal plus tip. Thank you Texas Roadhouse!
Arby's was offering a free roasted beef sandwich this day, so on our way home we drove to an Arby's and Mike got his free sandwich, which he will eat another day. Thank you Arby's.
Applebees, Chili's and Olive Garden were giving free meal to veterans and active duty military today as well. We went to Applebees last November 11th. Olive Garden is my favorite restaurant so we decided to go for dinner at Olive Garden this November 11th. Like the Texas Roadhouse, we only had to pay for my meal plus tip. Thank you Olive Garden!

Golden Corral! They gave free meal from 6-9 pm the Monday after the Veterans Day. For people who can eat, it is worth it because it is buffet and you eat all you want! Mike got his free while I paid my meal $9.89 (senior discount of $0.60) + Tax $0.84 amounting to $10.73. For that price, I guess it is okay if I considered it for 2 persons (even though Mike ate free). I don't eat much so for me I wouldn't go and eat there.

Tulsa Historical Society and Museum

It was Museum Day and we got free admission (saving us $8) to Tulsa Historical Society and Museum. Good place to learn about the history of Tulsa.

I love ballet even though I don't know how to ballet dance. When I was a little girl I cut pictures of ballet pictures and pasted them in books. When I saw these 5 sculptures of Oklahoma's ballerinas in their respective signature role in the museum garden, I was very excited.

This deer was on sale for $595.
The dolphin was selling for $850
There was no price tag on this tiger. I guess it served as a decoration.

Tulsa Zoo and Living Museum

Today was Dollar Day at the Tulsa Zoo (6421 East 36th Street North, Tulsa, OK 74115)! Normal admission is $8, car park (weekends only) is $2, train ride is $1.50 one way. Total normal weekend admission & car park would have cost us a total of $18. But today we saved $15 because we only paid $1 each for the 2 of us and the car park was $1. We didn't go on the train ride.
Months before 31 July, the website said free admission on the 1st Saturday of August. At least they were getting in some money today. I am sure it is expensive to maintain a zoo. If they don't have a free or dollar day, we would still visit one day. The zoo is one of my favorite places to visit.

Giraffe, the tallest living animal? There were 3 of them in the enclosure. I guess the tallest was the father, under the shed, while the one in the sun was the mother. The shortest one was busy chewing leaves from a broken branch in a corner.

150 cm ball black stone, spinning non-stop on a bed of pressurized water.

Mike said "the animals are smart, they are in the cool, the people are stupid, they walk in the heat".
Yes, it was a hot day but not that terrible because there were resting and cooling stations along the tracks. Yes, most animals, that were kept in the open, were resting in the shade and so we didn't get to see them. On the whole, we enjoyed the 3-1/2 hrs there. The Zoo and living museum was great. Beautiful zoo! An interesting way to get your exercise by walking on the 78 acre land. Worth visiting for all their normal fees.

Gilcrease Museum

1st Tuesday every month, so it was free admission. We are grateful to save $13. We got there about 3:30pm and so had only 1-1/2 hours to see what is inside the Gilcrease Museum (1400 North Gilcrease Museum Road, Tulsa, OK 74127).
Beautiful paintings and sculptures. We got to see 3 exhibitions:
(1) "Perfectly American: The Art-Union and Its Artists", displayed from July 24 through October 2, 2011.
(2) "America: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of a Nation", displayed from June 26, 2010 through January 2, 2012.
(3) "To Capture the Sun: Gold of Ancient Panama", displayed from June 19, 2011 to January 15, 2012.
Like many museums, photography and videography are not allowed inside.
I am sharing with you 2 pictures of the bronze sculpture called "Sacred Rain Arrow" by Allan Houser, and it is located right in front of the Gilcrease Museum entrance. Wish that archer could shoot the sky and bring rain now to this city and state. It has been hot hot hot.
Nice landscape. I am sure it would be more beautiful in Spring when the flowers are blooming.
